Library of Congress Recognizes Emails as Periodicals

The Library of Congress recognizes newsletters,
weekly informational emails or regularly updated web
logs (blogs) as regular periodical publications. As a
periodical they are eligible for an ISSN or
International Standard Serial Number. They're the
equivalent of the ISBN you see on all books. With an
ISSN, you're listed in the official ISSN register. This is
an international database used by libraries and similar
organizations.

Having an ISSN indisputably places your electronic
periodical in the same category as Forbes, Time and
other magazine periodicals. This is a another
subtle way of pumping up the "marketing" volume to
enhance the tools that help each of us market the
busines called ME, Inc..

Although getting an ISSN is simple and free, few
email publications ever bother. But it does add
that little smidgeon of extra credibility to your
newsletter. Just visit the ISSN website and follow the
instructions under "Requesting an ISSN for a serial
publication."

Don't Even Dream About Asking for a Raise . . . . . . . . by Carl E. Reid

Asking for a raise is not exclusive to employees. Self
employed consultants or companies that provide
services to a client can ask for a raise, as well. Why?
Because it's another unwritten rule we are
programmed to believe does not exist. If it were in
writing, then everybody would ask for a raise
whenever they
determined they deserved one. Now we can't have
that, can we?

As a an outside consultant, I have successfully
negotiated client fee raises for myself and consulting
companies that hired me. Once, I was dropped
abruptly from a consulting assignment. 4 days later
the client called me back. After a little negotiating,
the client agreed to pay higher fees from $14,000 to
$18,000 per month, plus expenses, for continuing the
engagement.

SMART TECHNOLOGY: Optimus OLED Keyboard

This information was just released in July 2005 by a
graphic design company in Russia. OLED display is a
self-luminous display that does not require a back-
light. Every key of the "wireless" Optimus keyboard is
a stand-alone display showing exactly what it is
being controlled at that moment. It's in its initial
stage of production. It is expected to be released in
2006. It will cost less than a good mobile phone.
Each key can be programmed, depending on the
software application being used. It will be an
open-source keyboard. SDK will be available for Mac
users. Keys use animation when needed.
